The term "Carnevale" comes from the Latin for "farewell to meat", which suggests a good-bye party for the steaks and stews that Catholics traditionally gave up during the weeks of fasting before Easter. Before Lent each winter, Venice sloughs off the winter gloom and burst into life, tourists flood the city for an orgy of pageants, commedia dell'arte, concerts, balls, and masked self-display until Shrove Tuesday signals the end of the party.

Heart of the Venice Carnival is Piazza San Marco, the place where masks and the public to meet the great parades. But Carnival is in itself a big party spread , where every bar, every street and every area comes alive with music and theater, whose common goal is the pleasure of being in the company and subvert roles and conventions, even if only for a few days. In Venice, the link between Carnival and Mask is indissoluble. The first testimonies and documents date back to the fifteenth century, when the job of "mascarero" was recognized with its own statute.

On March 5th 2016 Caffè Florian and Veneti di Cina present Venetian Carnival, bringing the extraordinary spirit of the Carnival in Suzhou!
